Police say dad, angry over money withdrawn from bank, hit son with golf club
A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he struck his 18-year-old son with a golf club multiple times over the son withdrawing money from his bank account without permission, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said the victim withdrew “a small amount of money” on Sept. 17 and went with a friend to a coffee shop. When he returned home in Millbrae, his parents confronted him and were upset he had taken money without getting their permission, authorities said.
The victim was hit “several times” by his father with a golf club, resulting in “moderate injuries,” according to officials. The teen didn’t report the incident until returning to school on Monday.
The Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer began an investigation; the father was arrested Sept. 21 at his home and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility, authorities said.
